Some ideas . . .

  • GENTLY encourage a family member to come back to Mass.
  • Read the Sunday scriptures at home, before attending Mass.
  • Go to a weekday Mass one day during the week.
  • As a part of your Lenten almsgiving, make a point to learn more about a particular social issue (immigration, human trafficking, racism, the environment, public education, child poverty). Give money to an organization related to your chosen issue that supports the dignity of the human person.
  • Give up television and Internet for one day.
  • Read a religious book, alone or as a family.
  • Pray for world peace, as a part of your evening meal.
  • Select and perform a specific spiritual and/or corporal work of mercy.
  • Compliment someone every day.
  • PRAY!
  • Put together a list of those to pray for.
  • Meditate with the Stations of the Cross. We offer these during Lent on Fridays.
  • Learn about one of the saints, and pray for their intercession.
  • Use the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl to reflect on the realities of people in need around the world and devote prayers, fasting, and almsgiving to changing the lives of the poor. 
  • Donate a bag of food to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in our parish.
  • Attend one of the Holy Week services.
  • Read one book of the Bible.
  • Give up accusing others/being critical of them.
  • Try doing something kind for someone at least once a day and make it something that costs you time and energy.
  • PRAY!
  • Pick up a copy of the Dialog after mass, or browse it on line.
  • Pray for the success of the Synod.
  • When you first sit down in front of your computer at work, or at the very end of your workday, try a 10-minute guided prayer from Sacred Space based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius.
  • Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. 
  • Send a card or note of encouragement to one of the priests who serve us.
  • Memorize a prayer that you don’t already know by heart.
  • Thank someone who has been a positive influence in your life.
  • Give up your extra snacks or unhealthy treats; say a prayer instead.
  • Pray the Rosary and/or Divine Mercy Chaplet.
  • Take a short Lenten walk with your family once a week; begin it with the Lord’s Prayer.
