As of 2024, about 1 in 7 Delaware residents — over 157,000 people — face food insecurity, with 1 in 5 children affected
Food insecurity in Delaware is significant, growing, and disproportionately affects children, racial minorities, and older adults. While government programs and food banks help, the state faces ongoing challenges in meeting the needs of its food-insecure population.
The purpose of the GALA is to increase awareness of food insecurity here in Sussex County, to engage businesses and individuals in this effort, to be a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Delaware, and to support the local community impact programs implemented by the Parish service clubs mentioned above.
We expect the 2026 Helping Hands GALA event will build upon last years’ success in support of the Food Bank of Delaware. We will have a wonderful sit down dinner at Signatures Rest at Bayside, a live band, a Silent Auction featuring a number of Gift Baskets from local businesses, 9 different vacation trips, and a 50/50 raffle. We look forward to seeing you there.
The Helping Hands GALA is a combined effort of 3 community service organizations at St Ann’s Catholic Church: the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus Council 16771, and the St. Ann Men’s Club.
